The Competition Rules


Reed MIDEM (with registered offices at 27-33 Quai Alphonse Le Gallo, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt - France) is the official organiser of the MIPIM 2017 tradeshow (“MIPIM”), taking place from 14 to 17 March, 2017, in Cannes, and of the related MIPIM Awards 2017 (“MIPIM Awards”).

The competition rules of the MIPIM Awards are detailed hereafter (“Rules”).

Item 1: Competition categories and eligibility requirements

Projects completed in 2015-2016,* can enter the competition under one of the following categories:

  • Best futura project (total surface area <150,000 sqm)
  • Best futura mega project (total surface area ≥ 150,000 sqm)
  • Best hotel & tourism resort
  • Best healthcare development              
  • Best industrial & logistics development
  • Best innovative green building
  • Best office & business development
  • Best refurbished building
  • Best residential development
  • Best shopping centre
  • Best urban regeneration project

*Except for Best futura project and Best Futura Mega Project (construction starting in 2016-2017) and Best urban regeneration project (Project or one phase completed in 2016)

Item 2: Number of projects allowed

There is no limit on the number of submissions per company, as long as each project meets the criteria stipulated in the Rules.

Item 3: Pre-entry form

Companies wishing to enter the competition must complete and submit one online pre-entry form per project so that Reed MIDEM can verify each project’s eligibility.

If the project is managed by several companies, the company submitting the project guarantees that it is the sole initiator together with possible co-authors and warrants that it holds all the rights for the presented projects and information related to the project, and that it does not harm any potentially involved third party’s rights or anyone’s private life or likeness, and that the project / idea does not infringe any law, especially copyright laws. In case several companies submit the same project, they must reach an agreement to design one company only. If not, Reed MIDEM reserves the right to keep the first entry and reject the other ones. In any case, Reed MIDEM will not be held liable in case of any conflicts between the companies.

Pre-entry forms must be completed online by November 25, 2016.

Item 4: Entry form

If the submitted project is pre-selected, Reed MIDEM will ask the company to complete and submit the entry form and all required elements before December 23, 2016.

Entry forms must be in English, photos in high resolution and everything must be included in a zipped file attached to the online entry form.  

The company submitting the project understands and accepts that all information, including photographs and other materials, may be forwarded to third parties, including RELX group companies, with whom Reed MIDEM has contracted for the purposes of organising the competition. This information may be disseminated via any media, including the Internet, for communications relating to MIPIM and the MIPIM Awards, unless the applicant objects to the use of his/her photographs on the Internet.

Item 5: Entry fee

Applicants must pay an entry fee of €875 (+VAT 20%) for each project submitted, before December 23, 2016. Fees are not refundable, regardless of the results of the jury’s selection.

Important: If the entry fee is not paid, the company will not be authorised to participate in the MIPIM Awards competition and the project will not be examined by the jury.

Applicants will receive the payment form by e-mail. For security reasons, the payment form has to be returned by email, post or fax at + 33 (0)1 79 71 90 90. Contracts containing credit card details cannot be accepted by e-mail.

Item 6: The jury and its mission

All completed applications received by December 23, 2016, will be submitted to the MIPIM Awards Jury, an independent body of real estate professionals selected by Reed MIDEM.

The jury will meet in January, 2017 to review all the entries and announce the finalists.

The jury's mission is to select four finalists in each of the nine categories mentioned in item 1.

The jury can, in total independence, base its selection upon various and unlimited criteria such as infrastructure and transport access, integration into the environment, originality of the concept, technical and architectural quality, and services offered.

The jury is also entitled to move any project to a more appropriate category and consequently judge the project in that category. The applicant will be informed by email of this change.

The jury reserves the right not to examine incomplete applications or applications that do not comply with the present rules.

The jury may decide to remove a category if they consider that the submitted entries do not ensure a sufficient level of quality.

The jury’s decision is final and will not have to be justified.

Item 7:Finalists

Companies will be informed bye mail if their projects have been selected by the MIPIM Awards Jury.

Finalists must be registered to MIPIM in order to represent the project during the MIPIM Awards Ceremony held during MIPIM inside the Palais des Festivals, Cannes.

Item 8: Visual elements for the show and vote

Finalists will be asked to supply additional elements which may be displayed on site as well as during the MIPIM Awards Ceremony. Reed MIDEM reserves the right to choose which elements will be displayed and modify them to guarantee the quality of the competition and the MIPIM Awards Ceremony.

The finalists expressly authorise Reed MIDEM to use their names, likenesses, voices and application extracts, including project video(s) and/or image(s), for conducting the voting process, presenting the project(s) during MIPIM and the MIPIM Awards Ceremony, and promoting MIPIM and the MIPIM Awards. Finalists also certify that they have been authorised to this end by potential co‑creators or third parties and commit to provide Reed MIDEM with the name of the photographer (photo credit).

To the same end, finalists also authorise Reed MIDEM to freely use any project logos, trademarks, titles, extracts and other intangible rights and promotional items submitted to the 2017 edition of the MIPIM Awards competition.

Finalists also certify and guarantee that they have been authorised to this end by potential co-creators or third parties.

Item 9: Competition prizes

In addition to the eleven awards given to category winners, there will be one extra prize, the Special Jury Award for the jury’s favourite project chosen during the jury meeting

Item 10: Voting process and results

During MIPIM, MIPIM participants will be able to vote on site at the Awards Gallery for their favourite project in each category.

Their vote will be combined with the jury’s vote, each representing 50% of the final result that will determine each category winner.

In the event of a tie between two or more projects, the president of the jury will determine the winner in the presence of a Reed MIDEM representative and an independent assessor.

Item 11: MIPIM Awards Ceremony

The competition results will be announced at the MIPIM Awards Ceremony, which will take place on March 16, 2017 during MIPIM at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes.

Official representatives for the winning projects will collect their prizes on stage.

The prize-giving may be photographed and recorded for the purposes of promoting the MIPIM Awards, the winners, the finalists and their project(s). Winners and finalists authorise Reed MIDEM and their representatives to photograph and video and audio record the prize-giving directly or indirectly, including their likenesses and voices, together with any elements related to their projects as mentioned under Items 4 and 7 above, and to reproduce and broadcast those photography and recording to the public by any means, including the www.mipim.com website for promotional purposes. Winners and finalists also certify  and guarantee that they have been authorised to this end by their official representatives and any potential co-creators and third parties.

Item 12: MIPIM Awards Ceremony attendance

Each finalist agrees to send at least one official project representative to the MIPIM Awards Ceremony to receive any prize(s). 

Companies selected as finalists for the MIPIM Awards do not receive free entry to the MIPIM exhibition area.

Item 13: Claims

Registering and competing for the MIPIM Awards implies full acceptance of the present Rules. The Rules and the MIPIM Awards are governed by French law. If no amicable settlement can be reached, any dispute arising in connection with the construction and/or performance of the Rules as well as said Awards shall fall under the jurisdiction of the Commercial Court of Paris, which is expressly acknowledged and agreed by the parties.

Item 14: Miscellaneous

In the event of force majeure or unforeseen circumstances resulting in the impossibility of organising MIPIM, the MIPIM Awards shall be cancelled without any indemnification whatsoever.

The applicant is informed that the personal data collected by Reed MIDEM in connection with MIPIM Awards will be processed for the purposes of organising this competition. The beneficiaries of this data will be Reed MIDEM, its personnel, the jury and may be forwarded to third parties, including RELX group companies, with whom Reed MIDEM has contracted for the purposes of organising the competition. In accordance with the French law “Informatique, fichiers et libertés” of January 6, 1978, the applicant may obtain communication of such data from Reed MIDEM to the following address: contract.cnil@reedmidem.com. The applicant may also, for legitimate reasons, rectify, object or oppose to the processing of his/her personal data by Reed MIDEM.
